Romina Garrido leads Prieto’s Data Protection, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence practices.
An expert in Personal Data Protection and Ethics, she has been advising public and private organizations since 2008 across sectors such as healthcare, transportation, telecommunications, scientific research, and retail. Her experience includes data management strategies, technology implementation, data-driven projects, data transfer agreements, and impact assessments, among other activities. She is currently working on projects related to the implementation of the new personal data protection law.
Romina Garrido has been a speaker at various national and international conferences on topics such as Data Protection, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence, including events like the Congreso del Futuro, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Universidad de Chile, UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the CPDP Conference, and other global forums.
In the academy field, she is a professor in the Data Protection Management Diploma Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universidad de Chile; the Master’s Program in Medical Informatics at the same university; the New Data Protection Diploma at Universidad Central; the Data Protection in the Public Sector course at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez; and the Master’s Program in Digital Business at Universidad Diego Portales.
In the governmental sphere, she has served as a legislative advisor to the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, overseeing legislative processes in the National Congress. She advised the Ministry of Health on technology procurement and data protection matters. She has worked at the Library of Congress and founded the NGO Datos Protegidos. She was a member of the Legal Advisory Council for the Digital Government Division of the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGPRES) and led the subcommittee on responsibility and bias convened by the Senate’s Future Challenges Commission to support the development of AI regulations.
She participated in the expert committee and technical advisory committee for the personal data protection bill in the National Congress until its full approval and currently serves on an honorary expert committee advising the Ministry of Science on the Artificial Intelligence Bill.
Internationally, she was part of the Ibero-American Data Protection Network and was recognized by WOMCY as one of the 50 most outstanding women in cybersecurity in Latin America in 2024.
