EXPERIENCE
Romina Garrido has been Counsel of Prieto since 2023 and leads the Personal Data Protection area.
Specializing in Personal Data Protection and Ethics, since 2008, she has advised public and private organizations in sectors such as health, transportation, telecommunications, scientific research, and retail. Her expertise includes data management strategies, technology implementation, data-driven projects, data transfer contracts, and impact assessments, among other activities.
Romina studied law at Universidad de Valparaíso and holds a Master’s degree in Law and New Technologies from the Universidad de Chile. In the government sector, she has served as a legislative advisor to the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, overseeing the processing of bills in the National Congress. She advised the Ministry of Health on technology procurement and data protection matters. She is a member of the Legal Council of the Government Digital Division of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGPRES) and led the responsibility and bias subcommittee convened by the Comisión de Desafíos del Futuro del Senado, to support the development of AI regulation. She was part of the technical advisory group of legislative advisors on the personal data bill at Cámara de Diputados. Internationally, she participates in the Ibero-American Data Protection Network and was recognized by WOMCY as one of the 50 outstanding women in cybersecurity in Latin America.
In the academic field, she is a professor in the Cybersecurity Diploma of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Universidad de Chile; in the Master’s in Medical Informatics at the same university; she teaches Data Ethics at the Business School and in the Diplomas of GobLab at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and the Master’s in Digital Business at Universidad Diego Portales.
