PROBONO

WE HAVE A TRADITION OF PROVIDING FREE LEGAL SERVICES TO LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND CHARITIES THAT CANNOT ACCESS LEGAL SERVICES BY THEIR OWN MEANS.

We have a Pro Bono Committee for these purposes, which analyzes free legal assistance matters and cases and decides on them. Benjamín Grebe, partner of Prieto is a member of the Probono Foundation’s Board of Directors; Juan Tagle, a partner of Prieto acts as the Councilor Foundation and Cristóbal Raby, is the Foundation’s coordinator within the Firm.

We actively provide Pro Bono services in all the Firm’s specialties, providing simple solutions for individuals who have no direct access to legal services. We have received the recognition of the community and the Pro Bono Foundation in these cases.

In 2019 we received the “Probono Project Award of the Year”. The prestigious English publication, Latin Lawyer, recognized our work with the Fundación Desafío Levantemos Chile in the reconstruction of the township of Santa Olga, destroyed by fires in 2017.

FOUNDERS

In 1977 Patricio Prieto together with Carlos Concha, Claudio Undurraga and Alberto González E., founded Prieto y Cía, today Prieto, one of the leading and most prominent law firms in the country with 48 years of experience.

Patricio Prieto S.

Patricio Prieto is a founding partner of Prieto Abogados. He studied law at Universidad de Chile and journalism at the Universidad de Navarra (1958-1959) in Spain. In 1961, he founded and was a director of the School of Journalism of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile through the year 1965 and a Professor of Political Science at that School. From 1969 through 1977, he was a partner in the law firm of Claro y Cía. He founded Prieto Abogados in 1977.

He was a member of the Committee in charge of drafting Constitutional Organic Laws of Chile (1986-1989) . He is currently a member of the Entrepreneurial Advisory Board of the School of Business of the Universidad de Los Andes (ESE), is on the Arbitrators Roster of the National Arbitration Center and is a member of the International Bar Association.

Patricio Prieto has been distinguished for many years by Chambers and Partners as a Senior Statesman in Corporate and in M&A.

Alberto González E.

Alberto González is one of the founding partners of Prieto and served as an attorney advising clients in the firm until 2020.

He counsels important national and foreign clients and has ample experience in banking law and the capital market. He is a former Senior Counsel to Banco Santiago and has been a participant in important transactions on the financial market.

Mr. González has specialized in foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and corporate assistance to sanitary companies.

He studied law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, he also implemented the Business Senior Management Program (PADE) and the International Programme in Management for Legal Affairs (2013) at the School of Business of Universidad de Los Andes.

Mr. González is on the arbitrators roster of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and he is a member of the Chilean Bar Association.

† Claudio Undurraga A.

Claudio Undurraga was one of Prieto’s founding partners.

He practiced the legal profession for 57 years, studied law at Pontificia Universidad Católica (1965), and in 1977, together with Patricio Prieto, Carlos Concha and Alberto González, founded Prieto y Cía, today Prieto, law firm in which he was an actor and witness of its growth and consolidation for more than 45 years.

Widely recognized and admired in the legal industry, he led outstanding teams in different areas such as Arbitration, Energy and Natural Resources, Projects and Infrastructure, Capital Markets, Antitrust and Telecommunications.

At the international field, he was distinguished for years by Chambers and Partners as Senior Statesperson, in the areas of Energy and Natural Resources and Projects and Infrastructure. For more than 30 years he was an active member in the International Bar Association (IBA), he was Chairman of the Latin American Regional Forum and Officer of the Professional Ethics Committee.

He played an active role in the formation of several generations of lawyers who work at Prieto today, he gave his experience and knowledge for more than four decades.

IN PRIETO WE SEEK TO INCORPORATE THE BEST GRADUATES OF THE MOST RENOWNED LAW SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY.

We seek to train lawyers from the beginning of their careers, so each new associate starts working under the direct supervision of a partner of Prieto.

While training our lawyers, we give them the opportunity of working in the different areas of the law firm, in order to provide them with comprehensive training with broad experience and exposure to different matters.

Once they have joined Prieto, we expect that our associates will be interested in continuing to hone their academic and professional skills through postgraduate degrees, academic activities and others.
